Unfortunately, our teeth tend to yellow and discolour over time. This can cause us to feel embarrassed of our smiles, hiding them from the world at any chance we get. But that’s no way to live! While it may seem unfair that some people can light up a room with a white and radiant smile, it’s very likely that they’ve had some professional help along the way.

Teeth whitening treatments are often very successful, and can completely change the way a patient feels about their smile (and their overall appearance) At Skylight Family Dental, we offer a professional whitening treatment that is able to whiten a person’s teeth by up to eight shades in a very short visit! This convenient and very effective method is performed in-office by our Scarborough dentist, requiring roughly 45 minutes-an hour of a patient’s time.

How does it work?

At our office, Dr. Omar will apply a special treatment gel containing Hydrogen Peroxide to a patient’s teeth, and will then use the blue Zoom light to activate the product – this brightens the teeth and removes any staining or discolouration. When a patient leaves the office with their brand new smile, they can preserve their results by following the care instructions provided by Dr. Omar. Results will typically last around a year, but a patient can choose to have touch-up treatments every few months or so to maintain brightness.

Are there any risks?

The dentist will always make sure that a patient is a suitable candidate for whitening before going through with the treatment (most patients with healthy smiles are)! It is common and normal to experience some sensitivity after the procedure, however, this will only usually persist for a day to a few days and can be relieved with the use of a desensitizing toothpaste or an over-the-counter pain medication.
